Proofreading
A proofread will catch errors in spelling, capitalization, punctuation, basic grammar, inconsistent format, typos, and word usage (such as further vs. farther).

Copyediting (line by line)
A copyedit includes the elements of a proofread, but focuses on style, continuity, word choice, clarity, redundancies, and clichés. In nonfiction, I’ll also check to see if sources are cited for statistics and quotations. I won't change the meaning, but I'll look for ways to make what you write better. In fiction, I’ll look for inconsistencies in point of view and tense.

Copyediting/Substantive - Nonfiction
A substantive nonfiction edit includes the elements of copyediting, but also focuses on the content being presented in a logical, engaging, and professional fashion. I’ll check for flow, structure, clarity of subject, and readability.

Copyediting/Substantive - Fiction
A substantive fiction edit includes the elements of copyediting, but also focuses on character development, dialogue, tags, beats, plot, subplot(s), theme, pacing, tension, voice, point of view, setting, the five senses, passive writing, showing vs. telling, and a satisfying story resolution.
$5.00 per page
Critiquing
A critique will provide an assessment/review of the first one to three chapters of your manuscript, noting its strengths and weaknesses.
I will point out specific problem areas and give general suggestions
for improvement. What a critique doesn’t include is detailed advice on grammatical and technical issues.

FORMAT
Manuscript pages should be double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman, with 1 inch margins all around. All fees are based on this format.
Manuscripts are sent electronically. I use Track Changes to make corrections. If you are unfamiliar with how this feature works, I will gladly send you brief instructions. I will also accept hard-copy proofs.
PAYMENT
Payment is required before I begin working on your project, but I offer a flexible fee schedule to best meet your particular needs. Fees may be paid in installments with payments made in advance of each block of work. You are welcome to pay by personal check or PayPal.
